1 Chapter a Day’s take

8-9 Abimelech was up first thing in the morning. He called all his house servants together and told them the whole story. They were shocked. Then Abimelech called in Abraham and said, “What have you done to us? What have I ever done to you that you would bring on me and my kingdom this huge offense? What you’ve done to me ought never to have been done.”

Abraham caused trouble in Egypt and again in Gerar because he and Sarah did not tell people the whole truth. (The Bible mentions that Sarah was beautiful and she must have been a stunner because 2 kings wanted her for their wives!) Instead of trusting God to take care of them, Abraham was fearful that Sarah’s beauty would get him killed and Sarah taken away.

Are you committed to always being truthful? And I don’t mean the kind of truth that is mean and derogatory — insulting other people is not acceptable, especially by claiming to be truthful! Are you committed to being truthful even when it is possible you will suffer for it? Are you fearful the truth will cause other people to be jealous of distrustful of you? Or you may have told a half truth to cover up a mistake you made.  You may think you are getting yourself out of trouble, but there will be a day when the half truths will catch up with you.

In verse 9, Abimelech tells Abraham, “What you’ve done to me ought never to have been done.” Have you done to this to anyone? If so, now is the time to make it right.
