1 Chapter a Day’s take

When Abraham gave Lot the choice of land he wanted to live on and Lot chose the very fertile soil of the valley, it appeared as though he had made the best choice. But, it turns out that his choice led to the downfall of his family. Genesis 19 is the tragic story of Lot and his family. In verse 8, we learn that Lot was not a loving, protective father and in verse 26 he loses his wife because she did not want to leave the city they were living in even though it was being destroyed.

The choices we make will always have consequences. The land in the valley put them close to the city of Sodom, and instead of living in his tents, Lot chose to move his family to the city even though the people there did not worship God. His family became so attached to their life in Sodom that they all had to be led out of the city by the hand before it was destroyed because they didn’t want to leave.

Sometimes God asks us to choose what looks like the lesser of two things or we are given what appears to be the worst portion. But, God is trustworthy! Just remember that it appeared at first that Abraham received the poorer land choice, but God made it into an incredible blessing. God does the same for us so be patient when it feels like you were treated poorly or God is asking you to make a decision that doesn’t make sense. He turns those negatives into blessings!
