1 Chapter a Day’s take

1Abram’s wife Sarai had not borne any children for him, but she owned an Egyptian slave named Hagar. Sarai said to Abram, “Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps through her I can build a family.” And Abram agreed to what Sarai said.

In the footnotes after this passage, there is a note about verse 2. The phrase “Sarai said to Abram” literally means “Abram listened to the voice of Sarai”. There is nothing wrong with a husband listening to the voice of his wife, except in this instance Abram was listening to his wife instead of to God. As you read the rest of the chapter, you will discover that all kinds of problems occurred because Abram and Sarai were not patient. They knew God’s promise to them, but took matters into their own hands instead of waiting for God to keep His Word.

Be sure that you are patient and wait for God to answer your prayers instead of always trying to solve your problems yourself. Just like Sarai and Abraham, we sometimes get ourselves into a lot of trouble when we get impatient. God  has many blessings He wants to share with us, but we have to wait on Him.
