1 Chapter a Day’s take

Ruth was a Moabite. Moabite’s believed in false gods. When Ruth declared her devotion to Naomi, she was turning from Moabite gods and turning to Naomi’s God (the one true God). Ruth then married Boaz…an Israelite. For an Israelite to marry and care for a Moabite was uncommon and unacceptable. But Boaz did it anyway.

Ruth is the only woman in the Bible referred to as a virtuous woman. This is amazing! From a worshiper of a false god to virtuous woman. She then became the grandmother of King David which is the lineage from which Jesus comes.

Though this story really happened, it does have some remarkable symbolism in it. Ruth represents us (sinners in need of redemption). Boaz represents Jesus (the one who can redeem us, care for us, and love us). Though we don’t deserve a new life (and eternal life), Jesus gives it to us anyway!
