Flying by the Seat of Your Pants — Proverbs 21 — 12.22.12

1 Chapter a Day’s take

Careful planning puts you ahead in the long run; hurry and scurry puts you further behind. Verse 5

Do you know what it means to “fly by the seat of your pants”? This old flying expression originated in the early days of flight, before navigation aids were invented. If a pilot got into heavy clouds he could not tell by sight whether he was flying level or if he was flying upside down! He would then check his pants. If his pants were not touching the seat, he knew he was upside down and he made the adjustments accordingly.

According to phrases.org, the meaning of this phrase is: to “decide a course of action as you go along, using your own initiative and perceptions rather than a pre-determined plan or mechanical aids.”

Do you live life by making choices as you go along? Or do you invest time in careful planning in advance? In the world of flight, many more accidents occur when pilots fly by the seat of their pants versus when they fly with quality navigation aids and gauges.

Read the verse again and ask God what life adjustments He would want you to make.
