Great Attitude “In Spite Of” — 2 Corinthians 12 — 04.17.13

1 Chapter a Day’s take

…so I wouldn’t get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,

My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Verses 7-10

We don’t know what Paul’s handicap was, but it was quite bothersome to him. Though Paul requested its removal three times, God did not remove it, because it helped Paul stay humble. It appears that Paul lived with this handicap the rest of his life. In addition to helping him stay humble, he learned that God’s grace was sufficient to help him deal with it. Paul changes his attitude about the handicap and concluded it was a gift from God. This is not simply “positive thinking.” It is learning to see things from the perspective of eternity. That often results in followers of Jesus having great attitudes in the midst of difficult circumstances.
