1 Chapter a Day’s take:

Don’t be nitpickers; use your head — and heart — to discern what is right…Verse 24

It is important to seek the truth, learn the truth, know the truth, and live the truth. However, this can be done without a nit-picky attitude. The Pharisees were not authentic seekers of the truth. They pridefully acted like they were the only ones who knew the truth. And what they knew was not even the truth. They just did not know that it was not the truth. (Whoops — I think I just confused myself).

The bottom line lesson for me today is to be aware that I am not always right. I can give deference to others with whom I disagree unless the point at hand is an absolute essential of the faith. Even then, a loving attitude is the only way to discuss differences.

Wayne Dyer says, “When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.” The Pharisees could have used this advice!

Disclosure: Though Wayne Dyer claims to be a Christian, some people do not think his teaching is compatible with Christianity.

That said, I like this quote. Though there would certainly be exceptions, I think being kind is the best choice approximately 90% of the time (when forced to make a decision between being right or kind). If you disagree, go ahead and tell me…just be kind about it! :)
