1 Chapter a Day’s take:

Most of all…Verse 8.

Anytime the Bible says, Most of all, it is time to pay attention! Peter is writing about many important things. But right in the middle of his letter, he says: Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Verse 8.

Loving others is at the heart of following Christ. And the enemy of loving others is…selfishness. Peter addresses this problem in verses 1 & 2. He basically says that always expecting to get your own way is a sinful habit. To overcome this pattern of sin, we must learn to think like Jesus. He then gives us an illustration of how to think like Jesus.

None of us likes to suffer. Our selfishness wants to feel good all the time. So Peter says we must think differently about suffering. Since selfishness is not satisfied in suffering, we must embrace the suffering as it trains us that self satisfaction is not to be our life focus. As we embrace this truth, we are set free from pursuing self satisfaction…and set free to pursuing what God wants instead of what we want.
