1 Chapter a Day’s Take

The disciples of Jesus often impress me. Other times, they crack me up…they were human just like me. In verse 37 we see James and John saying to Jesus: Arrange it so that we will be awarded the highest places of honor in your glory–one of us at your right, the other at your left. I totally understand their request. I like to receive rewards and recognition. I sometimes desire to be recognized as amazing…OK, I always like to be recognized that way–LOL! But check out what the other disciples thought about this:

When the other ten heard of this conversation, they lost their tempers with James and John. verse 41

Here are the same guys who left their careers, family, and all semblance of security to follow Jesus. They were committed, but they had a lot of learning to do. And Jesus takes this opportunity to teach them. The lesson: Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done. He came to serve, not to be served–and then to give away his life in exchange for many who are held hostage. Verses 45 & 45 (TM)

Enough said.
