How About an Incentive? — 1 Samuel 17 — 04.22.13

1 Chapter a Day’s take

When Saul and his troops heard the Philistine’s challenge, they were terrified and lost all hope. Verse 11

David, the young boy comes on the scene to find a terrified group of adults who had no hope. When he heard about what was going on, he did not immediately volunteer. In verse 26 he asks What’s in it for the man who kills that Philistine and gets rid of this ugly blot on Israel’s honor?

He wanted to know what was in it for him. This is interesting. God seems to approve of working for incentives.

David was completely confident that God would come along side him and enable him to kill Goliath. And he did! I think God would have been glad to help any of the men in the army kill Goliath, but they were too afraid to trust God.

What big reward does God have waiting for you after you conquer fear, step out, and trust him?
