Read all of chapter 8 today and the first nine verses of chapter 9.
1 Chapter a Day’s take
In verses 4-7 of chapter 9, God gives Solomon some “if, then statements.” God basically says to Solomon: if you live in my presence, if you live pure in heart and action, if you live out the life I have set out for you, if you are attentively obedient to my guidance, then I will support you in your kingly rule over Israel, and guarantee your success. But if you or your sons betray me, if you ignore my guidance, if you serve and worship other gods, then I will wipe Israel off the map.
This conversation between God and Solomon sets the stage for what will happen next in the life of Solomon.
