08-22-12…John 21

1 Chapter a Day’s take:

Toward the end of this chapter, Jesus is explaining to Peter that his (Peter’s) death will be rough, but it will glorify God. Peter’s first question was, “How is John going to die?” Jesus basically said, “Don’t worry about my plan for John. It may be that I decide to take him to heaven without him dying at all. Stay focused on my plan for you.”

It is easy to live life wishing we had someone else’s job, someone else’s spouse, someone else’s car, someone else’s smarts, someone else’s talents, someone else’s looks, someone else’s parents, Someone else’s personality, someone else’s children, someone else’s spiritual gift, etc. Don’t worry about what God is going to do with someone else. Discover how he has gifted you and focus on God’s plan for your life. It will lead to effectiveness and joy!

Note: History suggests that Peter was crucified under Emperor Nero, the cross being upside down at his own request since he saw himself unworthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus Christ.
