07-20-12…Judges 5

1 Chapter a Day’s take:

The land was quiet for forty years. Verse 31.

God’s children had disobeyed God and had done evil in his sight (insight from previous chapter). As a result they were being cruelly oppressed. They cried out to God. Even though the plight of the Israelites was their own fault, God heard their cry and had mercy on them.

His mercy was delivered because of the actions of two different women: Deborah and Jael. Yesterday’s post focused on Deborah. Today I want to focus on Jael.

Jael was the wife of Heber the Kenite. She was a homemaker that always went above and beyond her expected “duties.” She was so committed to God that she was willing to do anything God called her to do…even if took her way out of her homemaking duties.

She literally put an end to the oppression brought about by Sisera…the commander of the enemy army. The story is too graphic to mention here, but you can read about it in verses 24-27 of chapter 4.

As a result of the obedience of 2 women, the people of Israel experienced 40 years of peace. Be obedient to God…he will bring benefits too great to imagine!
