1 Chapter a Day’s take:
They lost no time leaving the road walked by their parents, the road of obedience to God’s commands. They refused to have anything to do with it. Verse 17.
After Joshua and his generation died, another generation grew up that didn’t know much of God or the work he had done for Israel. This generation was quick to pursue selfish ambition with no regard to the truths of God…namely that obedience to God brings blessing. And, disobedience to God removes his blessing and opens the door to many unnecessary problems.
Somehow, the parents did not pass on God’s ways to their children. This always leads to disaster. I pray that I find a way to pass the ways of God to my children and grandchildren. Though I can’t “make” them follow God, I want to do everything I can to impart God’s truths and the benefits of following him to my kids. “Lord, please help me in this endeavor!”
