Genesis 43…The Brothers Return to Egypt

The goal of 1 Chapter a Day is not to fill your brain with content. But, rather to look for God to drop a “nugget of truth” into your heart from each reading. This should be something you can apply to your life. The Bible is not simply a book to be learned…it is a book to be lived!

1 Chapter a Day’s take on Genesis 43

Jacob was so set on preventing Benjamin from going to Egypt that he and his family were up against the edge of starvation before he agreed to let Benjamin go. In verse 10 Judah says, “If we had gone ahead in the first place instead of procrastinating like this, we could have been there and back twice over.” He said in verse 8, “if we don’t get going, we’re all going to starve to death-we and all our children too!

This hits me too close to home. I see a man (Jacob) holding on to something/someone he loves so tightly (Benjamin) that even what he loves (Benjamin) will soon die of starvation unless he let’s go of what he loves (Benjamin)! And everyone else would die too! At least there was a chance if he released Benjamin…but common sense sometimes goes out the door when we obsess over something or someone.

A few years ago, I was prompted by God to eat right and exercise. His message to me was “I have great plans for your life, and they require energy. Eat right and exercise so you can get in shape, feel good, and experience a high energy lifestyle so you can handle the great plans I have for you.” I have procrastinated because I “love” eating what I want when I want. And I desire to relax instead of exercise. Unfortunately, years have past. It may be that I have missed out on some of the great plans God had for me. Yet, I feel an opportunity to start anew today. Praise God for another chance! I will begin today and appreciate your prayers!
