Genesis 39…Joseph in Potiphar’s House, Then Prison

The goal of 1 Chapter a Day is not to fill your brain with content. But, rather to look for God to drop a “nugget of truth” into your heart from each reading. This should be something you can apply to your life. The Bible is not simply a book to be learned…it is a book to be lived!

1 Chapter a Day’s take on Genesis 39 (yes, we skipped chapter 38 intentionally)

In verse 2, “God was with Joseph and things went very well with him.” Verses like this are fun and exciting to read. It makes me want to make sure God is “with me” so things will go well for me. But wait…

  • in verses 11-15, Potiphar’s wife tells a very destructive lie about Joseph.
  • in verses 19-22, Joseph is thrown in jail despite his innocence.
  • in verse 23, we learn that God is still with Joseph while he is in jail and made sure this situation worked out for the best.

Wow! God can be “with me” and people still lie about and harm me. Their lies may take away my freedom or worse. This does not mean that God is not with me! And even though circumstances may turn for the worse, God can still bless me and make sure things work out in spite of those circumstances. He can even help me thrive and succeed in the midst of the bad circumstances. Praise God!
