1 Chapter a Day’s take
16 Judah as spokesman for the brothers said, “What can we say, master? What is there to say? How can we prove our innocence? God is behind this, exposing how bad we are. We stand guilty before you and ready to be your slaves—we’re all in this together, the rest of us as guilty as the one with the chalice.”
When Judah said that God was exposing how bad they are, he was referring to the brothers’ sin years ago when they had sold Joseph as a slave. And all these years later, that sin has come back to “haunt” them. We may think that we have gotten away with something, but the truth eventually comes out. It’s much better to own up to our mistakes when we make them than lie and cover things up.
