1 Chapter a Day’s take

1After all this, God tested Abraham. God said, “Abraham!”

“Yes?” answered Abraham. “I’m listening.”

He said, “Take your dear son Isaac whom you love and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I’ll point out to you.”

What God asked of Abraham in these verses seems horrifying! To kill his own son for his God. But in the land where Abraham lived at the time, it was a regular practice for people to sacrifice their children to give them as food to their gods. God was asking Abraham to demonstrate that he was as committed to God as the pagans were committed to their gods.

12 “Don’t lay a hand on that boy! Don’t touch him! Now I know how fearlessly you fear God; you didn’t hesitate to place your son, your dear son, on the altar for me.”

God does not want us to kill our children! But, he does want us to love Him more than we love anything or anyone else. Is God first in your life?
