07-31-12…John 5

1 Chapter a Day’s take:

In this chapter, Jesus healed a man who had been sick for 38 years! Wow…what a time for celebration. But instead of celebrating, the Pharisee’s (religious leaders of that day) criticized the man who was healed and Jesus who had healed him. The Pharisees were full of themselves and did not like the attention that Jesus was getting. Throughout the entire New Testament, this group was a pain in Jesus side. It is interesting to see Jesus response to those who falsely accused him:

But Jesus defended himself.  Verse 17

So Jesus explained himself at length. Verse 19.

These verses do not indicate that Jesus became “defensive.” Rather that he “defended himself”, but without having a “defensive” attitude! This tells me that Jesus was not willing to be a “doormat” and allow people to step all over him. He made sure to communicate truth to the Pharisees. Though they did not respond favorably to the truth, he had done his job.

Is there anyone to whom you need to speak truth? Ask God to lead you as to when to “confront” the other party and what to say. Then obey! (I am preaching to myself here)!  :)

What is your take?
