1 Chapter a Day’s take:

…many people noticed the signs he was displaying and, seeing they pointed straight to God, entrusted their lives to him. Verse 24

I really like the last phrase…entrusted their lives to him. Have you ever entrusted your life to Jesus? This is different than “believing” in him. This is referring to trusting Jesus with your life…your decisions…your here and now…and your eternity!

A story is told of Charles Blondin, a famous tightrope walker from the mid 1800’s. Once he walked across Niagra Falls and back on a tightrope. A large crowd gathered to see this daring and potential deadly feat. After successfully completing this task, he asked the crowd…”How many of you believe I can walk across and back one more time?” The crowd began chanting, “we believe, we believe, we believe!”

He then asked the crowd if they believed that he could perform this feat while pushing a wheelbarrow. The crowd shouted, “we believe, we believe, we believe!” He then asked a question that stunned the crowd.

Which one of you will sit in the wheelbarrow as I push it across Niagra Falls and back while walking on this tightrope? There was silence in the crowd. No one volunteered. They said they “believed,” but they were not willing to entrust their life to him.

It is one thing to say “I believe in Jesus.” It is another to be willing to entrust your life into his hands.” It is this “entrusting of your life to him” that is the key to experiencing abundant life now and eternal life after one dies.

“Lord Jesus, I entrust my life to you right now. I am solely dependent on you to make anything good of this life you have loaned to me. And I am solely dependent on you to take me to heaven when I die. I don’t deserve to go go heaven. But I want to go. I am counting on you to get me there! Thanks for paying my entry fee to Heaven by dying on the cross. I love you!”

Note: The picture to the upper right is of Blondin, carrying his manager, Harry Colcord, on his back while walking on a tightrope on a different occasion than the one described above.
