06-28-12…3rd John (there is only 1 chapter)

Note:

This is the book of Third John (3rd John). This is not the Gospel of John (4th book in the New Testament). This book is found in the New Testament after 2nd John.

1 Chapter a Day’s take:

…but Diotrephes, who loves to be in charge, denigrates my counsel. Verse 9

John was working hard to please God and build God’s kingdom. But he had adversaries like DiOtrePhEs. I will call him DOPE for short. The Bible says that DOPE:

  • loves being in charge.
  • denigrated John’s counsel (attacked John’s character and belittled him).
  • refused hospitality to “traveling Christians.”
  • attempted to stop others from offering hospitality to the Christians that were passing through town.
  • threw out every “traveling Christian” he could find.

If you work hard to please God and build God’s Kingdom, you will have adversaries. This is the norm in the Bible. People fight against those who love Jesus, follow Jesus, and obey Jesus.

But take heart! Just as God helped his followers in the Bible, he will help you to withstand and overcome your adversaries. And even when it appears that your enemies are getting the best of you, remember…their apparent victories are only temporary!

Keep serving Jesus!
